Dr. DK Tyagi

Dr. DK Tyagi is Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at TN Medical College & BYL Nair Charitable Hospital in Mumbai. He has had a long association with this institution since the time he joined as Registrar (Neurosurgery) in February 2002. Since then he has trained there for the DNB examination (which he cleared in 2006) and held various teaching posts including Lecturer and Assistant Professor before taking up his current designation in July 2009.

During his tenure as Associate Professor, Dr. DK Tyagi has performed many major and supra major surgeries independently. These include tumours, vascular pathologies, complex craniovertebral junction anomalies, intraventricular tumors, intramedullary cord tumours and pineal tumours. He has also performed skull base lesions such as parasellar meningiomas, petroclival tumor, chordomas, etc. In association with the ENT department he has done trans-sphenoidal endoscopic pituitary adenoma excision and glomus tumor excision. He supervises junior colleagues in different malignant pathologies such as meningiomas, gliomas and metastasis. He actively supervises residents in doing VP shunts, head injuries and spinal surgeries. In addition, Dr. Tyagi has administrative responsibilities for the department's human resources as well as equipment.

Dr. DK Tyagi is a recognised PG teacher with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) for the branch of Neurosurgery. At TN Medical College he trains neurosurgical residents as well as general surgery residents. He takes teaching sessions and ward rounds where each resident presents cases allotted to them followed by discussion. The Neurosurgery Department conducted the Bombay Neurosciences Association meet held in Nair Hospital in 2011 and 2012. Dr. Tyagi and his colleagues have conducted CMEs on topics such as head injury, brain tumours and hydrocephalus for different student categories – postgraduates, undergraduates and paraclinical (Physiotherapy / Occupational therapy / Nursing) students. Dr. Tyagi has attended a large number of conferences and workshops, where he has made presentations and delivered lectures regularly. He has numerous publications to his name in national and international journals.
